In this article, we will cover some common issues users have encountered when using Spreadsheet Link with Google Sheets and how you can overcome these. Let's take a look.

Authorization is required to perform that action

If you receive an error message saying that authorization is required to perform a certain action, this may be the result of you authorizing a non-default account on Google. What does this mean?

  1. It's possible to have multiple Google accounts. The one you log into first becomes your default account.

  2. If you try to access the Spreadsheet Link add-on on Google Sheets from another account (not your default), you may run into issues.

What can you do? The fix is easier than you may expect.

If you look at the picture below, you can see that the user has three accounts connected. The one at the top is the default account.

To ensure that the issue is resolved, open up the side menu as indicated in the picture. Just click on the icon of your face in the top right corner, and then do the following:

  1. Log into your default account.

  2. Set up Spreadsheet Link for the default account and authorize it there.

  3. Go to the account you want to use and then try logging in again.

Now that you've authorized your default account, any other accounts should be authorized as well.

Reports are not running on Google Sheets

If you are not the owner of the spreadsheet you are working on, it is possible that reports may fail to run. Reports may fail to run if the owner of the spreadsheet is no longer logged in, or if their login session has expired. To resolve this, the sheet owner needs to log in to Spreadsheet Link on the relevant spreadsheet.

💡Pro tip

To avoid this, we suggest creating a shared email account that your whole team uses to log into Google Sheets when using Spreadsheet Link. This way, you need never worry about the owner's session expiring.

Trying Google SSO on Google Sheets

If you try to sign into Spreadsheet Link using Google SSO, but you are already logged into Syft via another login method (e.g. Xero SSO or your email address), signing in on Google Sheets will not work. To fix this, do the following:

  1. Log out of Syft.

  2. Log back into Syft using Google SSO as your sign-in method.

  3. Return to Google Sheets and open Syft Analytics > My account.

  4. Log in with SSO.

This way, Google SSO will be connected both to Syft and Google Sheets.

Trying Xero SSO

If you try to sign into Spreadsheet Link using Xero SSO, but are already logged into Syft via another login method (e.g. Google SSO or your email address), signing in on Google Sheets will not work. To fix this, do the following:

  1. Log out of Syft.

  2. Log back into Syft using Xero SSO as your sign-in method.

Trying Intuit SSO

If you try to sign into Spreadsheet Link using Intuit SSO, but are already logged into Syft via another login method (e.g. Google SSO or your email address), signing in on Google Sheets will not work. To fix this, do the following:

  1. Log out of Syft.

  2. Log back into Syft using Intuit SSO as your sign-in method.

If it says you don't have access

If an error appears saying you don't have access to the add-on, this means that your administrator may need to give you access. In certain instances, admins can deny individuals access to add-ons on their accounts. So, you may need to contact your admin to request access.

If Syft isn't working or reports aren't running

If your functions aren't running or you can't insert reports on Google Sheets, open the side panel by clicking on Extensions > Syft Analytics > My account and make sure you are logged into Syft.

If there is an option for you to sign in, that means you are currently signed out and you will need to sign in with either Xero, Intuit, Google, or your email address and password, depending on what you usually use.
