Building your budget or forecast should be a straightforward task. That’s why we’ve introduced a more intuitive version of these tools, to make it easy for you to plan ahead with confidence. Now that these tools are almost fully fledged, we are beginning to let go of the legacy Budget and Forecast features and move everyone to the new experience.
If you haven't migrated yet, now's a good time to start. This guide walks you through what's changing, what's new, and what to do next.
What's changing
As of 1 September, you will no longer be able to create new budgets or forecasts in the legacy Budget and Forecast features. Here's what will and won’t be affected:
Creating new budgets/forecasts in the legacy tool: will no longer be available
Accessing and using existing legacy budgets or forecasts: still available
Adding existing legacy budgets or forecast to reports: still available
Viewing existing legacy budgets or forecasts in existing report templates: still available
From now on, all new budgets and forecasts should be created in the new experience.
How to migrate to the new experience
You can find the new version of Budgets or Forecasts by navigating to Plan > Budget or Plan > 4-Way Forecast, respectively.
Once within these features, they work very similarly. Simply click “Create new forecast” or “Create new budget” to get started.

If you already have existing budgets or forecasts in the legacy feature, here is how to port these over:
Download your budget or forecast from Syft to Excel.
Create a new budget or forecast in the Plan section mentioned above.
Ensure that you match the new forecast or budget settings to the settings of your legacy forecast or budget (for example: population values, start dates, etc.).
Ensure you select the same layouts for the new budget or forecast as you selected in the legacy version.
Generate a template for Excel to upload your new budget or forecast into Syft.
Ensure you have opened the Syft add in to use Spreadsheet Link in Excel. If you haven’t already downloaded this tool, here are instructions on how to do so.
Open your old budget/forecast side by side with the new template in Excel, and copy the information over using XLookup or VLookup to match the correct values.
Double check that you have copied the information over correctly and that your Layouts are aligned.
Press “Validate” to validate the values in Spreadsheet Link.
Upload your new budget or forecast into Syft and begin making adjustments in Syft.
The great news? In the new version of this tool, you can work with different scenarios to better prepare for the future! And, as always, you can include this budget or forecast in a report.
