How to add a duplicate entity

There are two ways to duplicate an entity:

  1. Navigate to the "Home" tab and click on the three dots next to the entity you wish to duplicate. After this, click on "Duplicate entity". A duplicate entity setup pop up will appear. You will then be prompted to fill in critical information about your duplicate entity.

  2. Alternatively, click on the "Add entity" button at the top right-hand side of your screen and select "Duplicate entity", as shown in the image below. This will take you to a duplicate entity setup page where you will be prompted to fill in critical information about your duplicate entity.

Important to note

  • You cannot create a segment entity from a duplicate entity.

  • Only users who added the entity to Syft are able to duplicate it i.e. you cannot duplicate entities that were shared with you.

  • You cannot create duplicates of duplicates.

  • The refresh data at the bottom left of your screen will disappear for a duplicate entity as it is the original entity that is refreshing, not the duplicate.

Why duplicate an entity

You may want to duplicate an entity on Syft for several reasons. For starters, creating a duplicate can help you save a lot of time and energy.

For instance, you could duplicate an entity to be able to report the same entity information in more than one different currency without changing the currency in the entity settings each time you want to report.

Alternatively, you could create duplicates to make minor tweaks to the data to meet management or compliance reporting requirements.

Moreover, when working on consolidations, you can create a copy of an entity to cater for changes in shareholding of the entity over time. And you can even share duplicate entities with external organizations
