How to connect Acumatica to Syft

Syft and Acumatica

The collaboration between Syft and Acumatica represents a major advancement in your data management endeavors, unlocking exceptional value from your Acumatica data. By seamlessly merging the capabilities of Acumatica with Syft, users gain access to the complete range of features available within Syft, including reports, visualizations, consolidations, forecasts, budgets, valuations and benchmarks. Through integration with Acumatica, Syft effortlessly retrieves transactional-level data, enhancing financial insights and facilitating a deeper understanding of your data.

How to connect an Acumatica entity to Syft

The process of connecting an Acumatica entity to Syft comprises of three parts. The first part is completed on Acumatica, the second part involves publishing a project and the third part is completed on Syft.

On Acumatica

You will need to publish a customization project on Acumatica. To do this, follow these rules:

  1. Publish the customization project after hours when no one is using Acumatica:

    This is important because if someone is working on Acumatica at the same time, the deployment of the customization might lead to unpredictable results.

  2. Pick one person to deploy customization projects:

    Managing customization projects can get complicated because they are the means of delivering all customizations in Acumatica, whether it’s a simple customization done by via the Acumatica web interface or a more intricate customization implemented using Microsoft Visual Studio with multiple lines of code. As all customizations must be made in the same place, it's a good idea to have one dedicated person who is aware of all customizations and when each one was deployed.

  3. Deploy from your production instance:

    When you import a cusotmization project .zip file into the Customization Project (SM204505) screen, Acumatica stores the definition of the customization in the Tenant that you are in so you no longer need the .zip file. However, if you have multiple tenants, the Acumatica team recommend deleting customization projects from all tenants except for your production tenant.

  4. Publish to all tenants on the instance:

    The Acumatica Instance is the URL that you use to access Acumatica. The Acumatica Tenant is the drop-down that you pick when you login and that you see in the upper-right after you login. It’s best to think of every customization as affecting all Tenants on an Instance because it’s very difficult to know whether a customization affects one Tenant or all Tenants.

Publishing the Project

To publish the Syft Acumatica customization project, follow these steps:

  1. Download the .zip file: which you can find here.

  2. To publish this Customization Project, go into the Customization Projects (SM204505) screen in Acumatica and click on "Import".

  3. You will then be prompted to open the package. Select the Syft .zip file to upload. Click "Open" and then click "Upload".

  4. Now that the Syft Customization Project has been imported, select it and click "Save".

  5. Acumatica will publish all Customization Projects that are checked in the first column.

  6. Since you want to publish to all of your Tenants, you need to click the down arrow next to the "Publish" button and then click "Publish to Multiple Tenants".

  7. In the pop-up window, check each Tenant. Clicking "OK" will start the Customization Project validation process in a pop-up window.

  8. When the pop-up window comes up, you’ll see a bunch text indicating that Acumatica is validating the customization project. When it’s done, there will be a green line that says “Validation finished successfully.” Once you see this green line, click the "Publish" button.

On Syft

To connect your Acumatica entity to Syft, follow the steps below:

  1. Click "Add entity" at the top right of your screen.

  2. You will now be redirected to the add entity setup page where you can click on “Acumatica”.

  3. You will be required to link your Acumatica company by providing the Acumatica URL and tenant name.

  4. Syft will redirect you to your Acumatica login where you can fill in your details and click “Sign in”.

  5. Syft will then request your permission for access. Click "Yes, Allow".

  6. Syft will now set up your entity. Once the setup has finished loading, click "Finish". Your Acumatica entity will then be connected to Syft Analytics.

Permissions

The user adding the Acumatica entities to Syft needs to ensure that they have permissions to access the following forms on Acumatica:

  • Company Branch - CS401000

  • Financial Year - GL101000

  • Chart of Accounts - GL202500

  • Journal Transactions - GL301000

Additionally, ensure that the user is an ODatav4 User. This can be done on the SM201010 form, as shown in the image below:
